At the mystical crossroads of intuition and ancient wisdom, Tarot remains one of the most powerful tools for self-discovery and guidance. In this interview we sit down with Demian, a former staff member turned renowned astrologer and Tarot reader, who has been professionally reading cards since 1998. With decades of experience and thousands of readings for clients across the globe, Demian shares his journey into Tarot, the lessons he’s learned along the way, and how astrology deepens his practice.
1. Tell us about yourself.
My name is Demian, I have been a professional Tarot Card reader since 1998 and
have done thousands upon thousands of readings for clients all over the world.
2. How did you first get into Tarot and what was the event that solidified your
commitment to this practice?
My Mother use to read the Tarot, she would teach me the Celtic Cross and
how to work with the cards in a reading. She ended up giving me her Tarot ,
the Rider Waite deck, which I then used on friends and work colleagues. I
would then practice and start to visualise the cards individually in my minds
eye. My first professional gig was at a community hall as part of a new age
festival. I was the only reader doing Tarot, there was a quite a cue of clients
waiting for me for their readings, it was that night that opened me up to the
possibility that I could be a Tarot reader as a career from the feedback I got at
the end of the festival.
3. How do you prepare for readings mentally?
I try to clear my mind as much as possible. I always go through and check that I
have all 78 cards in my deck, I’ve learnt the hard way, cards do go astray. I then do a
protective ritual, cleaning my aura and grounding and then I’m ready.
4. Do you see Tarot as a tool for self-reflection, prediction or both?
Definitely both, the Tarot can work on several different levels, it can be an aid for
meditation, creativity, visualisation, rituals, reflection, spiritual development and
the predictive. There are so many aspects and nuances to the Tarot, you have
the answers to the whole of the universe in your hand!
5. How has your interest in Tarot evolved over the years?
It has developed and grown in so many different ways, from the magical ,
qabalah, astrology and inner development. I think it is a lifetime of study and
beyond, I love working with the astrological aspects of tarot being an astrologer
as well. I continue to be fascinated by the subject and am just as enthusiastic as I
was when I first picked up the Tarot forty years ago.
6. If you could choose a Tarot personality to invite for dinner, who would it be?
Tough question, my favourite Tarot card has always been the Empress, but for
dinner it would have to be the Fool, the beginning and the end.
7. What is a set of cards that you would wholeheartedly recommend? And what
cards do you use yourself? Why?
For me you cant go wrong with the Rider Waite Smith Deck, the symbolism is
great to work with and most Tarot decks derive from that deck. I mostly use the
RWS deck myself and the Crowley Thoth Deck for my own development. Both
these decks I find easy to work with in terms of the visual element and the
philosophy behind them . I think its important to understand the creators beliefs
and experiences as much as possible to help you as a reader intuitively link in
with the cards.
