Written in the 16th century, Three Books of Occult Philosophy (De Occulta Philosophia libri III) is Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa’s study of occult philosophy, acknowledged as a significant contribution to the Renaissance philosophical discussion concerning the powers of magic, and its relationship with religion.
With chapters covering folk magic, myth, astrology, divination, necromancy, kabbalah, alchemy, and all forms of mystical and magical subjects, these books (along with the so-called Fourth Book of Occult Philosophy, which was attributed to Agrippa) remain perhaps some of the most influencial texts within the Western Esoteric Tradition to this very day.
In this talk Paul Summers Young will speak about the history and content of these seminal works, as well as the process of translating them for the recently published editions out via Black Letter Press.
